The ‘My AI’ bot will be for their Snapchat plus subscribers. Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snapchat, mentioned that “it’s just the beginning of the company’s generative AI plans.”

Snapchat has announced a chatbot powered by the newest version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

As per the CEO of Snap “Evan Spiegel,” it’s a dare that AI chatbots will surely increase and will become a part of day-to-day life for many more people. Named “My AI,” Snapchat’s bot will be noted and pinned to the app’s chat tab to the above conversations with friends and family. While initially, My AI is available only for $3.99 monthly to Snapchat Plus subscribers; the goal is to make the bot available to all of Snapchat’s 800 million monthly consumers, Spiegel tells The Verge.

“The best and big idea is that in addition to doing the conversion to your friends and family members each day, we’re going to make the conversation to AI every single day,” he says. “We’re well positioned to do this as a messaging service.”

At launch, My AI is a rapid, mobile-friendly version of ChatGPT inside Snapchat. The main difference is that Snap’s latest version has more limitations. Snap’s employees have enrolled and trained to adhere to the organization’s trust and safety guidelines. Furthermore, they have programmed not to give responses that include violence, swearing, sexually explicit information, or opinions which dicey topics like government or politics


It has also been deprived of functionality that has already gotten ChatGPT restricted in a few schools; we tried getting it to write academic essays about various topics, and it politely declined. Snap method to keep tuning My AI as more consumers utilize it and report inappropriate answers.

After trying My AI, it’s explicit that Snap doesn’t feel the requirement even to explain the phenomenon that is ChatGPT, which is evidence of OpenAI building the rapid-growth consumer software product in history, unlike OpenAI’s ChatGPT interface. It opens to a blank conversation page, waiting for a conversation with your near and dear one. 

While ChatGPT has rapidly become a productivity tool, Snap’s performance treats generative AI most like a persona. My AI’s profile page seems like any other Snapchat consumer’s profile, albeit with its alien Bitmoji. The creator suggests that My AI is meant to be another friend or family member inside of the social media app for you to hang out with, not on the browser.

That distinction could save Snap some headaches. As Bing’s execution of OpenAI’s tech has shown, the prominent language models (LLMs) underpinning these chatbots can be assured to give wrong answers, or hallucinations, that are problematic in the information of search. They can even be emotionally wily and downright mean if toyed with enough. It’s a dynamic that has, at least so long, kept more prominent players in the space — namely Meta and Google — from releasing competing products to the public. 

Snap is in a different place. It has a more diverse and young consumer base, but its business could be better. My AI will likely boost the company’s paid subscriber numbers in the short term. It could open up the latest ways for the company to make a good amount. However, Spiegel is cagey about his plans.

Snap is among the first consumers of OpenAI’s new enterprise tier, Foundry. It lets companies run its latest GPT-3.5 model with dedicated computing designed for huge workloads. Spiegel says Snap will probably incorporate LLMs from other vendors besides OpenAI over time and will utilize the data gathered from the chatbot to inform its broader AI efforts. While My AI is essential to begin, it’s the start for what Spiegel sees as a significant investment area for Snap and, most importantly, a future in which we can talk to AI like a person.
